# Logging In & Taking Attendance

To access the Instructor Portal, first, ensure that you have created and assigned an Instructor to a Class in the Schedule. To assign an Instructor, constituent's must already have [the Instructor persona](https://docs.c360.org/constituents/understanding-constituents#personas). Make sure the assigned Instructor has [a mobile number with the SMS option](https://docs.c360.org/constituents/constituent-details/sms-phone-numbers) checked.

Please note that if there is no SMS number assigned to the Instructor, you will encounter an authentication error while attempting to log in. This is because SMS numbers are unique across the entire database, and OnTrack uses this number to lookup the unique Constituent assigned to the entered phone number.

There are two new features of the Instructor Portal: Google translate (top left) and light mode (bottom right).

To begin, navigate to the Instructor Portal and enter the phone number assigned to the Instructor. The portal will send a 4-digit pin to that number, which you will need to enter for login.

Once logged in, you'll land on the Instructor Dashboard. A general welcome message can be configured, as well as an alert message to capture Instructor's attentions in case of urgent messages.

Any classes for the day will populate on the dashboard for quick and easy attendance taking. Instructors will also be able to view Upcoming classes and Previous classes.

Instructors can search classes by name or date. Classes older than 30 days cannot be accessed via Previous classes and Instructors will need to contact Affiliate staff.

Selecting a class will land you in the Details dashboard.

Selecting 'Participants' will take Instructors to attendance. They can search Participants by name in the event the class has a long list of Participants. Once complete, Instructors can mark that attendance was taken via the Attendance Recorded check box.

While Instructors won't have the ability to move waitlisted participants to registered, in the event that a on-site acceptance of a participants occurs, they can mark a waitlisted participant as present.

Once attendance has been taken, the class will updated with a green card and the data will be updated back in OnTrack for back-end staff.
